Synopsis

A geothermal system utilizes the Earth as a free-heat source captured by a series of underground polyethylene pipes called a ground loop. As a water/anti-freeze solution circulates through the pipes, heat is transferred to and from the home. Kiss the gas/oil/propane company goodbye.

Beat the Summer Heat with Geothermal Exchange

Before you head out to buy an inefficient air conditioning unit for your home or business this summer consider replacing it with an environmentally friendly and economical cooling system: a Geothermal Heat Pump! I know what you’re thinking; can a heat pump actually cool my house? Yes! A Geothermal Heating Pump takes advantage of the constant air temperature just below the earth’s surface to cool your home. Top 5 Reasons to replace an air conditioning unit with a Geothermal Heating Pump

How a Geothermal Heat Pump Works

Many animals hibernate a few feet below the ground for a reason; it's warmer there. Believe it or not the ground below the frost line is a constant 55 degrees year round. When it's 5 degrees outside it's 55 degrees under the surface, when its 95 degrees outside its 55 degrees below the surface. Ground Source Heat Pumps take advantage of this temperature difference to heat and cool.

The simplest way to explain a GHP is this… by laying pipe through the ground and circulating water through the series of pipes, the water will absorb the earth’s heat and become the same temperature (55°). Bring the pipes into your basement where you can use electricity to heat the 55° water in the system to 80°, then blow air across the hot pipe and circulate that air throughout the home as heat. Why does this help? Well before you were heating the 5° air up to 80° before circulating it, a difference of 75°! With geothermal you heat from 55° making the difference significantly less (in this example 25°). Continue Reading...

Benefits of a Geothermal Heat Pump

Lower Operating Cost. Quiet Operation. Environmetnal Impact. Clean and Safe. Life Cycle Cost. Positive Cash Flow. The most efficient gas furnace has an efficiency rating of 94%. Geothermal delivers a 400% efficiency rating. 4 units of energy are delivered for every 1 unit of electrical energy. This does not bend the laws of physicals; geothermal systems are transferring heat, not creating it by burning something. A more efficient comfort system lowers the bill... Continue Reading...
